Activities to do in Argentinean Northwest

The Tren a las Nubes (A Train to the Clouds)

The Tren a las Nubes is a tourist train service in Salta Province, Argentina. Connects the Argentine Northwest with the Chilean border in the Andes mountain range, over 4,220 metres (13,850 ft) above mean sea level, the fifth highest railway in the world. It departs from Salta every Saturday at 07:05, and returns around midnight.

Salinas Grandes

Bring sunglasses for this spectacular salt plain in a remote part of the puna, some 3350m above sea level. A lake that dried up in the Holocene, this is now a 525-sq-km crust of salt up to half-a-meter thick.
Artisans sell stone carvings and llamas made from salt. Limited drinks and snacks are available. The only way of reaching the salinas by public transportation is to jump off a Chile- or Susques-bound bus from Jujuy or Purmamarca.
